The Town may post seasonal road restrictions to protect local roads, especially during the spring thaw.
2026 Chip Sealing to Begin Week of September 7th, 2026
The Town of Ellsworth has contracted with Scott Construction to chip seal 4.5 miles of town roads. We are expecting them to begin this project sometime this week, September 8 - 11.
The following roads are scheduled for the chip seal:
Double Chip Seal Coat
490th Av: Highway C to Village Limits 1.0 mi
610th St: Highway 63 to 570th Av 1.0 mi
610th St: 570th Av to 610th Av 1.0 mi
Single Chip Seal Coat
570th Ave: 610th St to Railroad St 1.5 mi

Seasonal Road Weight Limits
Seasonal road weight limits go into effect when posted to help preserve Town roads during vulnerable weather and thaw conditions.
When posted, Town roads are limited to:
- 6 tons for one axle
- 10 tons for any two axles under 8 feet apart
Restrictions remain in place until road conditions allow them to be lifted. Notice will be provided when the bans are removed.
No Thru Truck Restrictions
The Town has adopted a no-through-truck ordinance for 450th Avenue and 710th Street.
Road Reports at the Annual Meeting
Residents hear the prior year and current year road work report during the Town's annual meeting, held the third Tuesday in April.
